XCR Round 2 Jells Park Relays - 16 May 2026
Well done by our 5 Waverley teams yesterday at Jells Park. We had 17 Waverley athletes tackling the hilly course, our home venue from the xcr season. Jells is just a great event for catching up with everyone near the start of the season.
Our fastest runners were Davin Hopper who scorched around in 22.25, with David Venour just 3 seconds behind in 22.28. Smoothy had flagged that he might not be 100% because his hammy was sore, so he'd better run last in case something happened. He smashed it. Ryan was our 3rd fastest in 23.22 continuing his great start to the winter season and Martin in 23.44.
It was great to see Beck back and running our fastest womens leg in 25.59, with Niamh next fastest in 27:42.
Biggest improvers from last year were Smurf 29 seconds quicker, Michael Jansen 1:28 quicker, Davin 50 seconds quicker, Petra 13 seconds quicker and Wendy 55 seconds quicker. I was 1:41 quicker but must have been even more injured last year. Nick and James McEniry also improved from their previous runs in 2024.
Our highlight was winning Mens 50. It was a dominant display by Davin, Martin and Smoothy with the team winning by nearly 5 minutes. Also our womens 50 team finished 4th, a great result from a team missing Sally, Kirsten and Nickie who have usually featured in our podium finishing teams in the past.
We were one of the few clubs with a bbq and esky going, and we had plenty of people wandering past asking for rego forms to join Waverley. A big thank you to Craig and Darren for being our club helpers all afternoon so that our points counted. And thanks to Petra for the salad, Daniel for helping cook and taking photos, Jackie for coming along to support us and all who helped and ran to make it a great Waverley day out.
The fastest times on the course were Andy Buchanan in 17:16, smashing last weeks 5K winner Ed Marks in 17:37. Fastest woman was Madison King in 20:43 (who just finished school with Georgia last year). Sandringham won both MEns and Womens Div 1 in a dominant display.
