In the last round at Casey Fields, Harvs signed up for the 5k walk. He could have just done 3K for the same points but Harvs likes a challenge. It was in the heat of the day at 32 degrees. He was lapped by the leader in lap 3, and then by halfway he was lapped by the entire rest of the field, including Carolyn Rosenbrock who is usually one of the AV officials, but had entered to help Yarra Ranges avoid relegation. She was suffering in the heat and after 3k had to stop and be attended to by first aid. She survived (just) for another lap and Harvs unlapped himself. But then she was cooked and had to retire. Our man Harvs was also cooked, but in true Harvs fashion managed to soldier on and finish the event in cruel conditions carrying Riggy Bear on his back for the last half of the race. He somehow also managed a 3 minute seasons pb and set us up for the round to avoid relegation.
Afterwards we had a 3K run and a BBQ. The 3K was lower key this year, straight after our Jells Relays yesterday. The pace was pretty friendly until the last lap when Ryan turned it up a few gears. Martin also accelerated but didn't have quite the same gear, and Daniel just let them go. Nick had already run 27km in the morning, but still managed to get around for his trademark barefoot run. Clyde had just finished telling me about all of his injuries and how he didn't think he could compete again next year. And then he popped up on the 3K start line.
1 Ryan Bentley 11.53
2 Martin Spiteri 11.59
