AVSL Round 3 - Casey 31 Oct

Our numbers were down a bit today with many away for the Cup weekend. But we still had some good individual results and managed to fill our 2 helper duties despite the wet conditions. At one stage it bucketed down at Casey Fields and the program stopped for 20 minutes.

We finished 9th in Div 3 with 11,438 points, just over half of our round 1 result. We're still 6th overall, but will need to lift again to stay clear of relegation area (bottom 2) and compete to finish in the top half. Our best is certainly up there.

Some individual highlights:
- top points 1,084 by Linda Buttigieg with season PB's in the 100m, javelin and pole vault. She scored 406 points in the pole vault with a big 2.45.
- 2nd highest points 1,050 by James McEniry with season PB's in the 100, 400 and 1500m. His best points were 394 in the 400m in 60.00, moving up on the inside from last to almost the lead, cruelly just not quite dipping under 60.
- 3rd highest points 1,017 by Shane Carstairs with season PB's in the shot put and hammer. A big 378 points in the shot put.
- A big 392 points by Niamh in the 1500 in 5:58
- A big 378 poinst by Ryan in the 800m at Aberfeldie in 2:05
- Well done by those who defied the challenging distances and tricky logistics to compete at multiple venues: Olivia Nicholson at Sandringham then Casey, and Simone Albiston at Casey then Aberfeldie
- 14 season PB's including 3 by Linda, and James M, 2 by Shane and also by Olivia in Discus and Javelin, and by Oliver in the 100m and 400m. Single PB's by Jay in the javelin by nearly 2 metres, and Clyde in the 2k walk.
- Special mention to Zane for completing the challenging 2k steeple event with an impressive time of 7:47
- A big thank you to our helpers at the javelin today, worth 545 points - James McEniry, Jay Wright, Greg Carstairs, Carl Spurling, Neil Hutchins and myself. You are all awesome (excepting me who was a pretty ordinary 1500m runner today).

We only had 16 athletes in action today, down on 30 and 28 in the first 2 rounds. We were also missing 3 of our 1,000+ point scoreres in Jack, Christine and Craig. So hoping we can lift again next week and get our mojo back. In R4 we are at Frankston so a little bit closer, or MeadowGlen (so a very long almost impossible trip to do the 2 venues).

Entries are open for R4 (close at midday Wednesday). View programs and enter at:

Hope you can make it.
