AVSL Round 2 Casey & Doncaster - 20 Oct
Well done everyone on great results in Round 2 at Casey Fields and Doncaster. We had 21 athlets competing, similar to R1 (22), but we scored even more points and finished a place higher in 7th.
- Welcome Xavier Davis from Malvern (U20) who debuted in the 100m and 1500m -very versatile. He was our quickest in the 100m.
- Our best points were by James McEniry with 1302. He scored over 430 points in 3 events at 2 venues, showing he is almost equally good over 200m, 400m and 800m. Also our fastest 400m runner.
- Linda Buttigieg with a big 1184 points including 400+ in hammer and pole vault.
- Equal 3rd best were Christine Bridle and Craig Sanford with 1092 points. It’s great to see Craig back and he scored our highest event points with 458 from his 2:13 800m. Christine is sitting our 2nd highest point scorer after two rounds, behind James McEniry in the lead.
- Jack Ashcroft was just shy of the 1000 points with 978 including 340 for his 24.31 200m.
- Ryan scored 846 points with season pb’s in both the 1500m and discus
- A big 1500m PB to Daniel who broke 5 minutes for the first time, smashing it with a 4:50
- We filled a 4×100m relay team. Well done Ryan, Daniel, Nic and Arun

Male: 100m Xavier Davis 11.93, 200m Jack Ashcroft 24.31, 400m James McEniry 57.77, 800m Craig Sanford 2:13, 1500m Ryan Bentleigh 4:37, 3000m Craig Sanford 10:49
Female: 200m Linda Buttigieg 35.73, 1500m Amy Hessell 5:16
- Our best field events:
Male: Long Jump Arun Ashok: 4.28, Triple Jump: Jack Ashcroft: 10.91, Shot Put: Jack Ashcroft 12.82
Female: Hammer: Linda Buttigieg 38.64, Shot Put: Linda Buttigieg: 7.83
Our biggest event was the 1500m with 9 Waverley-Malvern athletes. Then shot put with 6. Impressively we had 5 hammer throwers.
Awesome work by everyone who competed
Overall we scored 14,302 points (108 more than R1). We finished 7th in Div 3, well clear of Ringwood, Corio and Sandringham. Comfortably away from the relegation zone at the moment.
A special thanks to our Club Helpers James McEniry, Martin Spiteri, Simone Albiston, Christine Bridle and Linda Buttigieg. Thanks to them them we scored 5% bonus points. We’ve now covered 3 of our 7 duties for the season. It would be great if everyone can aim to help for at least part of one of our helper rounds.
