XCR Round 10 Tan Relays - 12 September 2026

Well done by 20 Waverley athletes who ran in the Tan relays today in magnificent sunny conditions. It was our biggest turnout for the winter season. A special welcome to our new youngest members Aarav Kochhar (13) and Zane Byrne-Staunton (14), and welcome back Jack Beasley (15) who combined together for our U16 team. Also welcome back to our longest serving member Clyde Riddoch (115) who completed his first winter event in 9 years.

Our U16 team all ran really well. Led off by 13 year old Aarav, he ran an impressive 14:29 changing to Zane who ran a solid 15:26 passing to anchor, Jack who ran a blistering 13:49, even quicker than last year. The boys placed 8th out of 15, but are young for the age group.

A higlight was our Men's 50 team, who had an unbeatable season lead into the last round and finished off in spectacular fashion. First Davin 13:59, then Smoothy also 13:59 and Martin who picked us up to 1st place with a blistering 13:42 last leg, a 10 year PB. Martin was also 4th quickest overall in M50, and Davin 2nd quickest in M60+.

Our Men Div 4 Team did alright, finishing 8th of 13, but importantly we finished in 2nd place for the season. So next year we have earned promotion to Div 3, where we'll be back against Malvern and Nunawading. Our fastest time of the day was by Ryan Bentley with a zappy 13:40 - his best winter points of the season. Daniel also picked up his best winter points with a nice 14:55, and Tim Stickley lapped me in Div 5 in the last km or so. Julian was a little late, presumably recovering from a big night after his Freo won a big home Semi-Final last night against the impressive Cats.

Div 5 were back in the field, thanks to my ordinary hobble in the last leg. But well done by Matt 15:55 for his best run of the season.

Our 60+ team did ok with Michael Jansen a solid 17:19, his best for 3 years.

Our womens 50 team were 1 short, but well done by Niamh 11th in 50.

A big thank you to our helpers Sally, Em and Wendy who had to battle off vehicles tring to turn into the gardens. And a big thank you to Neil Hutchins and Daryl Beasley for getting our MU16 team together. Especially thanks to the Beasley family for delaying their family trip to Tocumwal. I hope you made it to lunch ok.

Fastest times today were Seth O'Donnell 10:30 and Katherine Dowie 12:36. Men Div 1 was won surprisingly by Knox, and Women Div 1 by Sandringham.

Afterwards 12 of us enjoyed brunch at the Terrace Cafe in the gardens. It was very popular there in the beautiful sunshine.
